How Social Media Can Become the Hub of All Church Activity

The Pandemic changed church life.

Change was overdue.

Because churches were ordered to close for public health reasons, even small churches figured out how to live-stream worship.

Some simply set up a camera in front of the altar. Every at home worshiper was sitting in the same seat with exactly the same point of view.

Others began to experiment with multiple cameras and accompanying art.

Some began encourging chat on the side.

Great efforts!

But still that’s only the start.

Social Media can be used for so much more than worship.

There are eight areas of ministry for healthy churches to address.

  • Worship
  • Witness
  • Education
  • Outreach
  • Fellowship
  • Stewardship
  • Service and
  • Social Ministry

It makes sense to start a Social Media with worship. It helps bring everyone on board with the idea. Few will complain since the pandemic forced the online move. It’s a place to begin building relationships and collecting information.

First you need a name and an email address.

This is the start of an email list. Evangelism gold.

But what comes next?

The emails should be designed to encourage engagement. Engagement will lead you to know what needs to address in all your ministries.

For example, as people engage, you may learn that 20% of people online have young children. You start adding content for parents of young children and developing events to invite them to show up in person.

Same with the other ministries. You may find ten percent of your readers are new to the neighborhood. You create emails about your churches involvement in the community and invite them to a mixer.
